Grandma’s Apple Pie

Hi Everyone!

My favourite thing to bake is apple pie, so i’m here to share you my recipe! Enjoy! 🙂

Dough:

  • 200g sugar
  • 250g butter (@room temperature)
  • 400g flour
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 8g vanilla sugar
  • 1 egg
  • Bread crumbs

Filling:

  • 11 sturdy apples
  • 3tsp cinnamon
  • 75g raisins
  • 1tsp lemon juice

Coating:

  • 1 egg

Method:

  1. Get the eggs and butter at room temperature
  2. In a mixer mix the butter until soft and mixed
  3. Then, add the sugar and make sure it is completely incorporated
  4. Add one egg and beat again briefly
  5. In a separate bowl, sift the flour, baking powder and salt together
  6. Slowly add the flour to the butter mixture until you start to get a heavier dough
  7. Change the paddle to a hook one for dough
  8. Add the vanilla sugar and mix again for a little bit.
  9. Take the dough out of the mix and put it in clear film and place in the fridge for 15-30 minutes.
  10. In the meantime, line a tray with butter and flour
  11. Peel and cut the apples into slices into a new bowl
  12. Then, add the cinnamon and stir, make sure all of the apples are coated in it,
  13. Finally add the raisins and stir again
  14. Pre-heat the oven to 180˚C
  15. After the dough has stiffened a bit spread some flour on your kitchen counter and using a rolling pin, use half of the dough for the bottom layer and the sides
  16. Make sure that it isn’t too thin
  17. Add bread crumbs to the bottom so that the juice from the apples don’t seep through and make your dough soggy,
  18. Then, add the apples and cinnamon
  19. Finally, roll the last pieces of the dough and place these on top of the apples
  20. Whisk the last egg and brush it on top of the dough so that it does not burn in the oven
  21. Then, place the pie in the oven for 90 minutes
  22. Let it cool and then enjoy!
